Michael Lincoln
Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate
Michael is a Marriage and Family Candidate who believes the therapy room is where lives and relationships put together the puzzle pieces to figure out how to thrive. Michael uses warmth and humor as he works to provide insight into existing patterns so that new, beneficial ones can be created. Michael employs Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy in individual work and lots of Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT) strategies with relational clients.
Michael’s path to being a therapist all started when he worked as a manny for over a decade in New York City. Working with kids inspired a passion for developmental psychology, behavior management, and parenting. That emphasis on parenting influences how he thinks about helping all clients, whether that’s re-parenting one’s self, reconstituting attachment in relationships, or helping families shift perspectives to create more understanding. Michael utilizes a systems approach with a strong attachment focus and a trauma lens to guide clients in their healing process.
Michael completed his M.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy at CSU where he continues to work towards his Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Science. His research work examines the efficacy of parenting interventions to improve father’s sensitivity to their children. When he’s off the clock, he might say that he’s hiking or biking—doing the Colorado things—but he’s more likely to be hunting down new recipes to whip up or the best food spots around town.
